KDE4 Desktop Effects

Thursday, i installed SimplyMepis on my thinkpad notebook and it went good. But for a couple day, I couldn't start my desktop effects because it used vesa instead of intel driver. I thought that in mepis, I should install an intel driver manually, so i started to googled about how to enable kde4 desktop effects. Here's my hardware:

rmtx@mepisbox:~$ lspci -nn | grep VGA
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: Intel Corporation Mobile 4 Series Chipset Integrated Graphics Controller [8086:2a42] (rev 07)

But after 2 days, i couldn't find an appropriate solution for my problem. Until today, i encourage myself to change my xorg config manually because I think many GNU/Linux distribution don't need any driver installation for the intel graphics. And yes, it worked. Just change the string "vesa" to "intel" on the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file, it started to clear even still have fonts issue. Mepis couldn't show the font correctly. It just show a blank line for every font it appears. I googled again about this, but once again it gives me no answers. Until my desktop started to blank and I reboot my system.

Suddenly after the reboot, my desktop just works. The fonts display correctly, and i could enable the desktop effects. Yes it so simple, I still can not believe why not since yesterday I change the settings. I think that's why there's no forum to discuss about this issue.

Okay, that's all for now. Thanx for reading ^__^

  1. Ini pake mepis 8.5 ya? Bagaimana? Enak?
    Saya sudah make yg 8, enak. Stabil (ya kalo lagi pengen lihat KDE3 sih, kan archlinux+KDE4 mantap? he5x..)

    Untuk xorg, kenapa tidak menggunakan:
    $ X -configure

    bukannya itu mensettup xorg.conf secara otomatis?
